Редакційна методологія та походження джерел

1. Академічні джерела та походження матеріалу

Ancient Context is built upon foundational public domain works of biblical scholarship, specifically:

  • The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (ISBE, 1915) — Edited by James Orr.
  • Біблійний словник Істона (1897) — Authored by Matthew George Easton.
  • Modern Archaeology & Near Eastern Historical Studies — Supplementary geographical, topographical, and cultural discoveries from contemporary research.

All upstream public domain materials retain their original public domain status. Ancient Context provides attribution for all historical material used across our dictionary entries.

2. Стандарт українського перекладу Івана Огієнка

Ancient Context is a bilingual educational project designed to serve both English and Ukrainian readers. For our Ukrainian language content, we adhere strictly to the landmark Ivan Ogienko Bible Translation Standard (1962):

  • Orthography & Proper Names: Hebrew, Greek, and Latin names are rendered following Ogienko's established Ukrainian biblical transliteration (e.g., Ягве, Аврам, Мойсей, Бет-Ел, Скінія).
  • Scripture Passages: All scripture citations follow Ogienko's canon structure and book name abbreviations (e.g., Буття, Вихід, Повторення Закону).

3. AI-редакційний процес та контроль якості

To process and format over 10,000 reference terms efficiently without sacrificing academic rigor, we employ a structured AI-assisted human editorial pipeline:

  1. Source Admission: Raw historical data is verified against identified public domain reference texts.
  2. Structured Data Parsing: Concepts are extracted into structured fields: In Brief Summary, Historical Context, Textual Significance, Key Passages, and Related Terms.
  3. AI Drafting & Normalization: AI tools assist in updating archaic 19th-century prose, normalizing transliterations, and drafting Ukrainian translations.
  4. Human Editorial Verification: Core concepts (Tier 1 terms, major theological and geographical entries) undergo human review to verify historical accuracy, citation accuracy, and non-sectarian tone.

4. Розмежування історії, текстових фактів та інтерпретації

We maintain a clear distinction between verifiable ancient Near Eastern or Greco-Roman historical evidence, textual features of biblical manuscripts, and theological interpretations across various traditions. Our goal is to provide non-sectarian contextual clarity for students, pastors, and researchers.

5. Відкриті дані та ліцензування контенту

Ancient Context believes in open, accessible biblical education:

  • Codebase: Open-source static site generator software code.
  • Original Editorial Contributions: Project-created summaries, structured data schemas, and translation updates are made available under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0), allowing free reuse with attribution to Ancient Context.
