Palti son of Laish, a member of the tribe of Benjamin, was selected as one of the twelve scouts sent by Moses to survey the land of Canaan. Later, King Saul gave his daughter Michal, who had been married to David, to Palti as a husband. When David later demanded Michal's return as a condition for his alliance with Saul, Palti was forcibly separated from her and followed her weeping as far as Bahurim.
